Join the Overland Expo Foundation and American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) for a special conservation project taking place Wednesday, April 16th during this year’s Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah. As passionate advocates for responsible outdoor recreation, we are coming together to support land stewardship efforts along the Fallen Peace Officer Trail, ensuring that this beautiful and heavily trafficked area remains accessible and well-maintained for future generations.

trail overview

Fallen Peace Officer Trail sits between Hwy 191 and Arches National Park. It is a rocky loop that meanders up to a high ridge providing great views across an expansive valley. Sevenmile Rim, Monitor and Merrimac Buttes can all be seen, as well as Tower Arch.

project overview

FPOT has several camping areas near the trailhead and we’ll be upgrading the fences as well as installing new fence. The fences help designate camping areas, trail access, and establish conservation areas. This much needed project will help Utah Trust Lands Administration keep areas open for continued exploration.

What to Bring as a Volunteer

To ensure a productive and enjoyable experience, volunteers should come prepared with the following items:

  • Sturdy footwear – Hiking boots or durable trail shoes are recommended for navigating uneven terrain.

  • Weather-appropriate clothing – Dress in layers and bring a hat, sunglasses, and gloves for sun protection.

  • Plenty of water and snacks – Staying hydrated is crucial in the desert environment.

  • Work gloves – While some gloves will be provided, bringing your own ensures a good fit and comfort.

  • Personal tools (optional) – If you have small hand tools such as shovels, rakes, or mallets, they may be useful.

Provided Supplies

We appreciate our volunteers and will be supplying the following to help with the project:

  • Tools such as fence pliers, fence stretcher, t-post driver, motorized t-post driver and a motorized drill will be provided by Ride with Respect, a locally based organization.

  • Signage materials and installation tools for setting up designated camping areas.

  • Trash bags and cleanup supplies to help maintain a Tread Lightly! environment.

  • Light refreshments to keep everyone energized throughout the day.
