ABOUT National Forest Foundation
ABOUT The National Forest Foundation
Chartered by Congress, the National Forest Foundation was created with a simple mission: bring people together to restore and enhance National Forests and Grasslands.
The National Forest Foundation is the leading organization inspiring personal and meaningful connections to our National Forests, the centerpiece of America’s public lands.
Working on behalf of the American public, the NFF leads forest conservation efforts and promotes responsible recreation. They believe these lands, and all they provide, are an American treasure and are vital to the health of our communities.
The Impact
With nearly 5 million annual users the Coconino National Forest is the fifth busiest National Forest in the country. The NFF and FRD’s Motorized Use Education project involves installing new signage with more direct verbiage, clear instructions, and a QR code for visitors to download the current Motor Vehicle Use Map.
Signs will be strategically placed along corridors off U.S. highways and busy recreation corridors, targeting the most heavily used areas. The goal is to get information at most entrances to the National Forest, especially where visitors transition from pavement to Forest roads.
Accessible and distinct signage will help visitors make informed decisions about where to drive, thereby protecting wildlife, watersheds, and forest integrity. The installation of new signage will directly benefit the forest environment and enhance the overall visitor experience by promoting responsible motor vehicle use.
