At Overland Expo West 2022, we met up with our Overland Experience Scholarship recipients, Terry and Bridger Cummings and Jess Stone.
Terry and Bridger are a father and son team that built their own overlanding trailer. They plan on towing it with the son’s FJ cruiser from Salt Lake City, UT to their favorite place, Cannon Beach, OR. Not only is this a celebration of finishing the trailer, but the trip is to celebrate Bridger’s graduation from high school with a 4.0.
They made the most out of the educational program at Overland Expo by taking classes to help them prepare for their journey such as Overland Trailers: Building, Buying and Driving, taking their rig out on the Overland Driving Course, and Navigation Series, Part 2: The Compass.

Jess Stone, and her dog Moxie recently embarked on a round-the-world journey. She’s riding a 2013 BMW G650GS outfitted with the K9 Moto Cockpit motorcycle dog carrier. To help her with her challenges of learning and riding off-road with a big dog on the back of her bike, she took moto riding class Level 1: Balance and Control and On-Road/Trail Moto Maintenance while she was at Overland Expo West.
Here’s what Jess had to say about her experience: “The event was spectacular! We had an amazing time chatting with everyone about riding with Moxie and the fundraiser. Everyone was so supportive and I’m glad we were able to come and share our expertise… And my off-road classes with DART have already helped me during some of the off-road I’ve been doing in California!”
We wish everyone all the best on their overland trips and look forward to catching up with them when they return!
